We are looking for someone to be part of leading and strengthening the team in charge of organising the biggest women’s sporting event in the world: the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia New Zealand 2023™.


To ensure the successful operational delivery of the ninth edition of this competition, we have set up a local events team. Its aim is to improve the experience of over 1.1 billion people watching the FIFA Women’s World Cup™, by delivering innovative solutions across all operational areas.

Job responsibilities

As the Head of Operations - Australia, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be in charge of the successful operational planning and implementation the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023TM and all related events.

Under the guidance of the Chief Operating Officer and FIFA Director of World Cups, you will build an operations team comprising of Venue Management, Signage, Host City Management, Marketing Rights Delivery, Events & Ceremonies, Maps & Drawings, Technical Services & Overlay. You will also ensure the Operations department  establishes an efficient and smooth team operation, collaborating with all involved functional areas before and during the tournament.

As Head of Operations, you will act as a ‘centre of competence’ on any relevant strategical developments (actual or future) for the relevant Operations areas towards the Chief Operating Officer internally and towards external partners, such as the football business in Australia. As a leader, you should be able to harness your team’s motivation and channel it towards staging a highly successful FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 TM.

You will work in close collaboration with Functional Area experts based in FIFA HQ in Zurich to ensure that the Operations projects of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023TM are successfully planned and implemented.


Job duties

Your role as the Head of Operations – Australia includes the following responsibilities:

  • Establish an optimal operational structure comprised of the following Functional Areas: Venue Management, Signage, Host City Management, Marketing Rights Delivery, Events & Ceremonies, Maps & Drawings, Technical Services & Overlay
  • Implement an inclusive and well-functioning Venue Operations Management, where stakeholder needs are collected, managed and implemented to achieve tournament objectives
  • Coordinate with host cities, public authorities, public transport, police, emergency services and stadium management in order to ensure the smooth running of each venue
  • Implement the agreed integrated project plan, according to set milestones, for all areas of the Operations portfolio, working effectively with the Project Manager to meet all internal reporting deadlines
  • Manage all areas of the Overlay project to ensure its successful delivery, and provide any technical services, maps and drawings and overlay installations
  • Oversee the Marketing Rights Delivery programmes for FIFA Commercial Affiliates
  • Create and implement creative and engaging ceremonies and pre-match entertaining programme for all matches
  • Manage and review the Operations budget, including regular reporting with the COO and Finance team
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with relevant external agencies as well as key national contractors
  • As a key member of the management team, work collaboratively with colleagues across Australia, in New Zealand and Zürich as defined by the operational organizational structure
  • Ensure that the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 operation runs with legality and conformity to established FIFA regulations.


Qualifications & experience

You should have at least 10 years’ leadership experience working in complex, major international sports events in a similar role, possessing extensive knowledge of event planning and event project management processes (PM certification such as PRINCE2 or PMP advantageous) You should have demonstrable success in managing multi-disciplined teams, as well as the capacity to make key decisions for the business.



This position requires a true leader with the ability to negotiate, cooperate and make decisions by applying critical problem-solving skills in a calm manner. As leader of a diverse team, it is important that you take an inclusive approach and are able to motivate others toward a common purpose. You must be able to delegate tasks appropriately while being transparent and assuming accountability for any decisions taken on your watch. A high degree of innovation, passion and vision is essential, and you will be able to hire, develop, coach, appraise and attain highly qualified personnel according to the organisational structure of the local events team. The demands of the job mean you must be highly resilient and organised, as well as able to manage conflict and communicate clearly.
