Catering Manager - Australia

If you are a seasoned Catering Manager interested in a once-in-a-lifetime job in the sports industry, this is your chance. We are looking for someone to lead and strengthen the team in charge of organizing the biggest women’s sporting event in the world: the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™.

To ensure the successful operational delivery of the ninth edition of this competition, we have set up a local events team. Its aim is to improve the experience of over 1.1 billion people watching the FIFA Women’s World Cup™, by delivering innovative solutions across all operational areas.

Job responsibilities

As the Catering Manager for Australia, reporting to the Head of Operations AUS, you will ensure the efficient organisation of the Catering function for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 and all its competition-related events. It includes provision of catering services for:

  • VVIP/VIP and guests;
  • FIFA, & FWWC 2023 Ltd Workforce, volunteers and contractors;
  • Media;
  • PMAs and match officials; and
  • Ceremonies and Youth programme.

In addition, the Catering Manager will act as the first point of contact for all key deliverables linked to the delivery of any catering services within the venue matters (such as sustainability, hygiene, alcohol management, kitchen equipment and spaces inventory and allocation).  You will also ensure that in-venue catering is consistent across the tournament and meets agreed quality standards across all venues.

This role entails responsibility for the catering requirements for the tournament for the relevant client groups, carried out by the Local Entity in Australia.  This role will work closely with the appointed venue caterers, the Local Entity Marketing F&B Concessions Manager, and at times FIFA’s Hospitality Provider – Match Hospitality.

 

Job duties

Your role as Catering Manager includes the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and coordinate the catering services provision concept and align it with the expectations of key clients
  • Organize provision of Catering services during the FWWC and its competition-related events
  • Establish working relations with key stakeholders (including relevant public authorities)
  • Produce technical specifications of catering requirements / equipment / space to provide the required service in each stadium (and relevant sites)
  • Realise the full inventory of Catering spaces and kitchen equipment within each stadium (and any relevant additional sites) and assign them according to overall FIFA requirements to the relevant project users (Hospitality, F&B Concessions, and Catering) 
  • Define the strategic, operational and technical requirements of the relevant catering tender and procurement procedures to select catering for each stadium and any other relevant sites
  • To negotiate measurable KPI’s with appointed caterers and ensure menu options have been tested and are a high quality for all user groups
  • Ensure the efficient level of functional and venue planning
  • Interact with all the relevant FWWC client groups (and internal functions) and stands as the main contact with respect to the catering services
  • To liaise with the Volunteer Managers at each venue to ensure the catering requirements have been met for all volunteers, and ensuing practical solutions are provided where appropriate (i.e. packed lunches)
  • To work with relevant functional area heads to ensure obligatory catering requirements have been met for workforce, media, teams, etc.
  • Managing third-party caterers to deliver service excellence
  • Provide all operational input to the catering budgeting process and control the catering budget execution
  • Ensure project budgeting, reporting, post-Event debriefing for the Catering Project across all nominated Venues
  • Lead catering discussions and negotiations for the Official Draw and any other specific test events that may take place.

 

Qualifications & experience

You will have a minimum of 8 years’ experience in delivering catering services at international sporting events. You will also possess excellent customer service experience (including references for provision of excellent service to demanding clients) and a high level of presentation and negotiating skills. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the local regulations in terms of provision of food and beverage services (including those affecting sporting events). Having knowledge of event planning and event project management processes is an added benefit.

 

Skills

This position requires a person to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to lead a team but also work independently. The successful candidate will have exceptional skills in planning, organising and administrative tasks, including strong IT/MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
